What is the purpose of this course?

Laboratory, hospital or courier personnel are required to be certified to package laboratory specimens. Therapak offers a web-based training and certification program for regulations governing shipping, medical, and other industry substances.

What does this course cover?

The course covers domestic and international requirements as specified by the following regulatory agencies:

  • US Department of Transportation (DOT)
  • Federal Aviation Authority (FAA)
  • International Air Transport Association (IATA)
  • International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO)

Web Training Content includes: agencies and organizations, specific packaging guidelines for Category A, Category B and Exempt Human specimens, emergency response and safety training, security awareness and dry ice preparation/handling.

Who should use this course?

Any person involved in preparing hazardous materials (dangerous goods) specific to the biopharmaceutical industry for shipment will gain the necessary knowledge from this training course. Mandatory re-training is required every 2 years.

What are the benefits of this course?

Students will be presented with a "Certificate of Completion" at the end of the course, showing that they have successfully completed training in accordance with the U.S. Department of Transportation and the International Civil Aviation Organization.

Who teaches this course?

Barry Johnston has over 20 years of experience in the hazardous packaging and shipping industry. As a founding member of the Dangerous Goods Training Association (DGTA) he participates in developing training standards and practices. Over the years, Barry has trained numerous clients, including major esoteric, research and state labs as well as biotech companies, federal government (NIH, CDC, and NCI), national lab and clinical trial groups, couriers, and numerous colleges and universities. In 2000 he started HighQ LLC, a US DOT third party package certification agency.

How can I get started?

Following registration, HighQ provides a manual of the relevant DOT, IATA and other regulations to follow along with the online web training. The training takes approximately 1 hour to complete and is followed by a quiz. Only one manual is required per location.
